SUMMARY:Masonry Masterclass: Masonry Construction for a Better Environment
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Michael Schuller\, Atkinson-Noland & Associates\, Inc.\n\n \nMasonry has long been used to build long lasting\, attractive construction. In this webinar we will talk about some of masonry's inherent qualities that make it the material of choice for architects and builders. We will learn how to determine the fire rating of different wall systems\, see how masonry is used to diffuse and absorb sound\, calculate insulating properties\, and study how thermal mass reduces insulation requirements. Masonry is also inherently sustainable\, often being locally sourced using natural materials. Learn about new research showing how concrete masonry absorbs and sequesters more than half of its carbon impact\, much of it within the first months following manufacture. \n\n \n\n \n\nLearning Objectives\n\n1. Specify 2-hour and 4-hour fire ratings for masonry walls.\n\n2. Determine sound transmission class (STC) ratings for different wall systems.\n\n3. Calculate thermal properties of masonry walls.
